Now that spring is officially here, are you ready to get outdoors and go walking, hiking, or camping? I sure am looking forward to having some fun outdoor adventures this spring and summer. You too?

Problem is, I’m long overdue to go shopping for some new sneakers, hiking boots and sandals. The shoes pictured above are what I used to wear, but nowadays they are a couple of years old and totally worn out. Since I’m not into the idea of barefoot hiking, I’m checking the Internet to see what some of my best new outdoor footwear options would be.

I’ve been browsing the ‘net in search of quality athletic shoes, casual shoes and outdoor shoes for both men and women, because my husband is in need of new shoes, too. We’re both outdoors enthusiasts, but I’m more of a casual athlete, and my husband is more of a hardcore adventure-seeker and extreme sports nut.

Since my husband is into kayaking, I’m eyeing the latest water shoes that are available at Trivillage.com. We’re also both sailing enthusiasts, so I’m checking out a few different stores to see the Topsiders and deck shoes that are available for boaters.

I could also stand to buy a new pair of hiking boots or trail running shoes, not to mention a new pair of sandals. My next footwear purchase will likely be a new pair of Birkenstocks. My last pair of Tevas was complete junk, so I’m not interested in buying any more of those.

I’m also taking a look at the current offerings by Merrell, Salomon, Reebok, Timberland, the North Face, and Columbia. So many cool shoes… and only the tiniest of shopping budgets to work with. I’ll keep y’all posted on what I decide on.

Hello Kitty Is Not a Cat

You already know that Hello Kitty is an iconic cartoon character. You’ve seen her around all over the place, and her style is instantly recognizable. She usually wears a cute hair bow, and a blank facial expression. Sometimes she appears to just be a floating kitty cat head, but sometimes she appears wearing a trendy dress or outfit as well.

But did you know that Hello Kitty is not a cat?

She isn’t a cat, but that was definitely news to us. Like quite a few other people, we thought she was a cat.

While there were many things causing us to assume she was a cat — her kitty-cat ears, cat-like appearance and even her name — it turns out that our assumption was wrong.

Our bad.

We wondered — how could one of the world’s most famous cats turn out to not be a cat after all? So we set out to investigate this puzzling situation.

We found out some interesting facts along the way. For starters, the lovely Hello Kitty is about to be featured in her very own retrospective museum exhibition. How exciting!

This causes us to ponder: what will she be wearing when we see her there? Will she dress up? Will she wear her famous hair bow, or something snazzier — perhaps a tiara? As fashion bloggers, we’re hoping to see Ms. Kitty dazzle her museum audience by really putting on the glitz. But I digress.

Hello Kitty’s exhibition date is set for October 11, 2014 through April 26, 2015. It will take place at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California. We’ve marked our calendars for this event, and will look forward to hearing more about it.

Next, we found out that Sanrio is hosting a Hello Kitty convention at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles from October 30th to November 2, 2014.

So with this news in mind, we return to the original question: how could Hello Kitty not be a cat?

The explanation seemed obvious once it was pointed out to us. She isn’t a cat because she’s a cartoon character.

According to Hello Kitty’s official bio at the Sanriotown website, Hello Kitty’s full, given name is Kitty White. The Sanriotown websites says,

“Hello Kitty is a cheerful and happy little girl with a heart of gold.”

Aren’t you glad we cleared that up for you?

Athletic Shoes to Wear With the Latest Fitness Fad

These days, the Zumba fad seems to be in decline. Picking up steam in its place: CrossFit, a popular cross training program featuring different, multi-faceted daily workouts that are posted online each day. Both men and women participate, comparing times and encouraging each other.

If you want to get started with CrossFit, you probably already have some clothes you could wear to work out in. If your wardrobe already includes some athletic clothing, you’re covered — except, probably, for the shoes.

In many cases, your current athletic shoes are not going to be quite right for CrossFit training, for all the reasons we explain in our brand new article about CrossFit shoes.

One popular brand to look at and consider: the Reebok Nano 4.0.

Before you buy new Crossfit shoes, you might pause to reflect: What if the fad dies? Or what if I lose interest?

In this case, no worries.

For starters, Crossfit doesn’t seem to be in any danger of dying out. While it may appear that the CrossFit trend came out of nowhere, it’s actually been around awhile.

Additionally, even if CrossFit somehow does lose its appeal, the broader cross training trend is here to stay. In any case, cross training shoes will be useful for many different activities — including regular gym workouts, or just wearing around.
